i need blinds

I need real blinds soon. The ones hanging on my windows are temporary blinds made of paper. And they’re getting dirty. I can’t wash it because it’s paper. Oh well, when I bought them I knew they wouldn’t last long. What I need is wooden blinds that would match the interior of my home. The ones with dark wood tone. There are many colours to choose from but dark tones seem to evoke certain elegance. It looks modern yet elegant. a month of celebration

Our place is currently a disaster. It is overflowing with a lot of knickknacks and stuff from the former apartment. I have given most of my things to people but I still have boxes filled with “my stuff”. I’m on a mission to put something together so that when you enter our unit, there’s a WOW factor. But I’ve been running around town trying to find something that would make our place more put together. And then it hits me. I need to take a step back and consider ideal options and maybe create a vision for the unit. But I need to hide half of my stuff in some kind of credenza or else the place would forever look cluttered. And with MG’s birthday coming up and a house blessing, this is going to be a big challenge for me. I have about a month to spruce up the place. June is going to be a month of celebration. I would also need to buy a Champagne Bucket for all the expected drinking and toasting. And I have a pretty good idea what Champagne Buckets to purchase. Still where do I begin with the interior? I wish I had taken up Interior Design back in College. If that were the case then I wouldn’t have this dilemma now. But no time for regrets. What I need is a solution…and help!

Have you noticed how almost all storage boxes and bins are made of plastic? That’s why it took weeks before I actually got my place tidied up. I had a hard time looking for storage boxes that are both pretty and useful. Good thing I found ethnic storage boxes from Indian Home Decor. And they are really made from India and other countries and not just replicas or reproductions. Thank goodness. Now my place is getting to how I would like it to look.

I’ve started to fix the place a bit. I have some of the books in their proper places and the LCD and DVD are now out of the box. I just realized that I won’t be taking all my books with me. The unit just can’t hold that many books. So my dad agreed to adopt them and give them a new home. Actually, some of my clothes won’t be coming with me, too. And shoes and bags. That’s the problem with a small place. You can’t have too many things. But it’s also a good thing. It would prevent unnecessary shopping resulting to more savings. Yey. I think that’s good news.

Buy of the month, and it’s only March. This Alice Blue soy candle has been on my long list of must-haves for the house but I can’t seem to remember to pass by their kiosk everytime I go to Trinoma. But today I did, obviously. I love it. The scent I chose is Orange Clove and it smells like tea. The only downside is I get cravings for tea cakes and cucumber sandwiches. Tea time, anyone?!

Okay, moving on. I purchased almost all the electronics (like LCD TV and DVD player) I need for our unit and brought them there. I also bought a large mirror for this wall.

This is the wall you see when you enter the unit. A large mirror here should create an impact in our small space and should somehow make the room seem larger that it actually is. I originally wanted fabric on that wall just to create dimension and texture but I later chose the mirror when I saw one on sale at Crossings Department Store. I wanted to take a picture of the mirror but it would be best if I hang it first so you can really appreciate what it looks like.

still moving forward

I’m still struggling a bit to get over the feeling of not finishing the tasks I had set out for last week. I realize in the scheme of things it’s not THAT big of a deal, but after spending so many sleep-deprived nights struggling to get things ready for what was supposed to happen, it’s a huge letdown. Anyhow, at least there were two things accomplished last week.

my bookshelves turned into everything shelves

This was the original design for my bookshelves. I wanted it kinda random or uneven and not the usual formal bookshelves you see in most houses and furniture stores.

And here’s the actual bookshelves now. But with a bit of difference. There’s now that huge space for a television and some of the holes have lights so that it can also serve as my display case for my collection.

This was one of the first things I told my architect to do a sketch of because my books are really important to me and I want it to have its proper place in our new home. I was reading Ty Pennington’s magazine one day and I saw a bookshelf similar to this but smaller and that’s where I got the inspiration for this design. But this is not the only bookshelves in the house. I had another one built inside my room but I was not able to take a photo of it the last time I was there. I will be posting some more photos in the coming days.

…on my wall. I don’t know why I’m obsessing with my wall these days. It’s my contractor’s fault. He gave me a deadline on my wall’s color scheme. I have until Sunday to think it over. I’m going for white so all the paintings, print and photos I’ll place there will stand out. What do you think?
